This toolkit is possible because of the many funders, sponsors, and supporters of Flip the Fair, the partnership between Roanoke Public Libraries and Roanoke City Public Schools, and the dedication of Virginia Tech graduate student organizers and presenters as well as campus and community volunteers. The Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech has supported Flip the Fair since its inception through workshop facilitation (with Virginia Tech’s Office on Inclusion and Belonging), administrative support, and toolkit development.

Over its four-year history, Flip the Fair has been funded by Roanoke Public Libraries, Roanoke City Public Schools, the VT Global Change Center, the Center for Communicating Science at VT, the Student Outreach Program at Virginia Tech Carilion, the VT Graduate School, the Pandemic Prediction Destination Area, and the U.S. NSF COMPASS Center.

We also gratefully acknowledge in-kind contributions from partners across Virginia Tech, including the Office of Inclusion and Belonging, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion, the College of Sciences, the Fralin Life Sciences Institute, the Center for Emerging, Zoonotic, and Arthropod-Borne Pathogens, and the Department of Computer Science.

The first Virginia Tech Flip the Fair was held in 2022 as the outcome of an Interfaces of Global Change graduate student capstone project. We are especially grateful to the inaugural team and the graduate student organizers who have continued to shape and expand the program in the years since.
