Inaugural Undergraduate Nutshell Games at the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference.
The Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech is excited to announce the Inaugural Undergraduate Nutshell Games — part of the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference!
This celebration of undergraduate research and science communication will take place on Friday, April 25th, from 3:25 p.m. - 3:55 p.m., at Owens Banquet Hall (on the second floor of Owens Hall) on VT’s campus.
For the first time EVER, it's the undergrads' turn to shine before a live audience and panel of judges, including a 7th grader — and they're dropping 90-second research talks that pack a serious punch:
From tech that helps doctors track fetal movement with crystal clarity, to smart homes that work without the internet, to boosting safety for high-speed boats battling intense waves, and uncovering hidden figures in computing history with lightning-fast tech, these aren't just student projects — they’re the future of innovation.
As part of the new Dennis Dean Theatre Stem program, a collaboration between the Office of Undergraduate Research, the Center for Communicating Science, and the theatre arts program, it will be four courageous STEM students that step into the limelight following a communicating science workshop series where they learned and practiced techniques from the world of acting. The goal of this new program is to help STEM students become effective and engaging communicators who can share their research in ways that are meaningful and accessible to all.
The undergraduate presenters Include:
College of Engineering:
- Maggie M. Campbell, Computer Science
- Katelyn Crumpacker, Ocean Engineering
- Tarun Nandamudi, Computer Science
College of Engineering and College of Science:
- Aryan Palit, Computer Science and Applied Discrete Mathematics
Come cheer them on and be inspired on April 25th!
The Nutshell Games and the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference is open to the public. The entire conference runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature 8 rotating sessions of undergraduate research poster presentations throughout the day. Drop by any time to learn about some of the exciting research going on at Virginia Tech.
Short, sharp, and seriously cool — don’t miss out on the Nutshell Games, a fast-paced, fun-filled showcase of undergraduate research talks!
